“It’s time for Leaf fart!” That’s what my eldest son thought I shouted before we made this stained glass leaf craft. He had fun, but was disappointed when he realized this was all there was haha! 😉
Fun crafts for the fall season are easy to do with recycled scraps such as wax paper scraps, ribbons and crayon pieces.
Fall is the kickoff to the holiday season and what better way to celebrate than making home decorations? Creating homemade decorations is a great way to spend time as a family indoors when the weather is getting chilly and it leaves behind treasured mementos of your little ones’ childhood.
This activity uses small odds and ends that you may have sitting around after other crafts and uses the beautiful colors that are prevalent in the fall. Get out those pieces of broken crayon, leftover wax paper, and ribbon scraps and bring the family together for some fun quality time!

What you will need:
Wax paper scraps
Ribbon
Crayon pieces
Scissors
Iron
Single hole punch
Pencil sharpener
- Put pieces of crayon through a pencil sharpener to get shredded bits.
- Put the piles of shredded crayon in the center of a table with everyone around and have them sprinkle colors of their choosing on pieces of wax paper. These can be sheets of paper or scraps as long as they are the size of an adult’s hand. Be generous with the amount of crayon used because the more you have the better the colors blend and stick together.
- Place another piece of wax paper over the top and press down using an iron. This requires adult supervision or assistance. Once the crayon pieces have melted to your liking allow the project to cool completely.
- Once the crayon has hardened you can decide what shape you would like your project to be. A leaf is suggested but the shape is up to you. Trace or draw the outline of your choice on one side of the wax paper.
- Cut out your shape and punch a hole in the top.
- Tie ribbon through the hole and hang in a desired location or hang with tape in the window to illuminate your art!
A Variation on The Stained Glass Fall Decoration
- Place 2 pieces of construction paper together and trace a shape in the center.
- Cut the shape out with both pieces together but be sure to keep the border intact. The construction paper will be a border around the “stained glass.”
- Follow the steps for the original stained glass project to create your multi-colored shape.
- Once the projects has cooled, glue the wax paper portion to one side of the construction paper and then glue the other piece on the other side.
However you choose to express your creativity with your unused scraps, it is sure to make memories that will last a lifetime!
