Decluttering Like a Boss for Tired Mamas
Spring is happening, and the house needs a reset from the winter grime. But you are a homeschooling mom with limited time and ever draining energy. I am right there with you mama!
Let me be the first to tell you that you can have your spring cleaning and decluttering, without walking around like a “mombie.” (You know: the half awake mom zombie combo, that shouts a particular set of prearranged phrases like: “Do your school work!” “Be kind to your brother!” or “Stop licking the doorknobs!” whether they are applicable to the current situation or not ๐ )
Here are 5 easy steps to be your tired mama’s guide to spring cleaning.
1) Gather your supplies
SEt yourself up for success and grab your supplies before you start. You will need a notebook, pen, two trash bags, a tub or basket, and a cup of coffee or tea with chocolate ๐ Bring along your favorite all natural cleaner and a rag, and you are set!
2) Choose Your Battleground
What’s the ONE place that drive you bonkers because of the mess or lack of organization? This should be a place or room that if it’s ALL you get through with cleaning, you will feel accomplished.
For me, it’s the kitchen. If the kitchen is organized, I feel more in control of the chaos. We make better meals and mama has more energy to take on everything else. If the kitchen is cluttered or dirty, the rest of the house can be spotless, but I will still feel drained. Choose the place in your house that’s like that for you!
3) Make a List
Use your notebook and pen to draft a list of what needs to be done in your chosen room or place. Be ruthless! Make sure you have listed everything that will make you feel as though the room is decluttered, organized, and cleaned. You can list every drawer, cabinet, or place in need of scrubbing. Start with the purging, then list the organizing, and finally theย deep cleaning that needs doing. Everything goes on the list because you will feel amazing checking it all off!
4) Bag, Bag, Basket!
Now comes the fun part. As you start working down your list, every item you come across goes into one of four places: 1) Into its spot in the room you are organizing 2) In one of the bags as trash 3) In the other bag to donate or 4) Into the basket or tub to be moved into another room. It’s a game of Bag, bag, basket! Which will keep you focused on the area you are in and will save your energy that would have been wasted running all over the house.
5) Repeat
Once you have your whole list checked off, your chosen space should be purged, organized, be clean. Isn’t that awesome! Pat yourself on the back, sip on your coffee or tea, and admire all that you have accomplished!
Take your basket of things that need put away, and return them to their places. Load your goodwill bag into the car. Eat your chocolate, and repeat these steps for the next area that’s been bothering you!
