Looking for a fun activity you can turn your kiddoes loose with this Thanksgiving? Look no further! These adorable oreo cookie treats are simple for little hands to put together, and fun to enjoy eating as a family!
I simply lay out all of the ingredients and show my children how to put one together. My older children use the melted almond bark and help the younger ones use a small decorators icing tube to “glue” the candy eyeballs and beaks to the cookies. (Black decorators icing works best!)
Not only is this a super fun activity for my kiddos, but this helps keep those little hands busy while I clean, cook, prep, or rest before a big holiday gathering!!
Turn on some festive music and you just might have your own thankfulness family party on your hands!
Stuff You’ll Need
Gluten Free “Oreo” Cookies (We use gluten-free chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies!)
Candy corn, six pieces for EACH cookie
Candy eyeballs (I used these.)
Candy coating or almond bark, 1 square, melted
Stuff to Do
I show a picture to the kiddoes and turn ’em loose! Some snaking may occur during the process. 😉
If your children are too little to use the melted candy, let them use a decorators icing tube!
- Melt the candy coating according to package directions giving special care not to overheat the candy. If the candy coating is overheated, it will be too thick.
- Gently press five candy corns into the cream of each cookie.
- Using a toothpick, place small drops on the cookie and attach the eyes and another piece of candy corn for the beak.
Allow candy to harden completely before serving. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
*Placing in the refrigerator may cause the cookies to soften. Ask me how I know 😉
