Sidewalk chalk screams summer fun memories! Are you ready to make something super fun with the kiddoes? I have something very exciting in store for you. Drumroll please……I’m going to teach you how to make FIZZY Sidewalk Chalk Paint, plus I’ll show you the recipe.
This side walk chalk is great when you don’t want to go to the store to buy any, or when the stores are completely out. Sometimes you just don’t want to go to the store even when their sidewalk chalk is fully stocked haha! So, you can save money and make something amazing right at home.
You kids will be super impressed too 😉
Activities to Do With Sidewalk Chalk Paint
Once you’ve spent the time making your fizzy sidewalk chalk, you’ll probably want to do a few fun outdoor activities with your kids. Check out some of these fun activities!
Make a Picture of Yourself
One fun thing you can do with sidewalk chalk is to make a picture of yourself or your family. It’s so fun to see your kids’ versions of what they think they look like too!
Write a Fun Message to Someone
Another fun activity to do with sidewalk chalk is to write a fun message to someone. As they are walking by, they will see the fun message you just left. It would be great to leave a sidewalk chalk message in a friend or family member’s driveway (with permission of course). Then leave them a spray bottle to make the message fizz!
Play Games
One of my favorite activities to do in with sidewalk chalk is to create a checkers game. You can easily draw this on the sidewalk with the sidewalk chalk you just made. Fizz it up when you are done! Even more fun if the winner gets to do the spraying.
You can also play tic tac toe easily with this fizzy sidewalk chalk recipe.

School Work
Okay, okay.. so this one isn’t as fun as the others. But who says you can’t make school work or homeschooling fun? Use this chalk recipe to work out math problems, and if they are correct – FIZZ! You could also do the same thing with spelling words or vocabulary. I bet your kiddoes will never forget the fun they had learning!
Ingredients for Fizzy Sidewalk Chalk Paint
- 2 cups baking soda
- â…” cups cornstarch
- 1 cup warm water (easy enough to get)!
- Water-soluble food coloring (I buy this on sale)
- Vinegar, make sure you put it in a spray bottle
How to Make Sidewalk Chalk
Step One: Take a large bowl, mix the baking soda and cornstarch together.
Step Two: Stir in the water and mix until it is all the way blended.
Step Three: Go ahead and divide the fizzy sidewalk chalk into different containers. You’ll add the food coloring and then stir well.
Step Four: You will want to allow the kids to paint different surfaces and then here is the fun part. Spray vinegar on the chalk to get a fizzing effect.
Tips for Making Fizzy Sidewalk Chalk
Once you make this sidewalk chalk, I wanted to share some tips to help make the process even easier. These quick tips will really help you out!
- You need to be aware that the mixture may settle very quickly. It will be thick on the bottom.
- Keep in mind that some of the food colorings may also separate. Just stir again before using it.
- Do a test run on any surface that you want to paint to make sure it’s safe. (A.K.A. Don’t let them paint white siding 😉 )
If you plan on making this fizzy sidewalk chalk, then I hope you’re able to have as much as we did! What’s your favorite part of this sidewalk chalk recipe? I like the fizzing and my kiddoes reactions 😉
