Simple steps to Spring Cleaning Success!
I see you. Bone tired, surrounded by clutter, and you are tired of being more tired because of the mess!
Although it seems like a never-ending cycle, here are my best tips to feel like an accomplished spring cleaner with less effort.
1) Involve your kids
Spring cleaning is like declaring war on your stuff mess. You don’t want to go into that battle alone! Especially when your best (or only 😉 ) set of warriors might come along behind you and dump pretzels on your clean floor or remove sorted items from your goodwill stash.
Get the kiddoes on board and save yourself the extra time and effort it will take to battle both them and your mess!
2) Incentivize your Outcome
That’s a fancy way of saying: shamelessly BRIBE said, warriors. Be ruthless. If you want them fully on board, pull out the big guns that you know they will find worth working for. PIzza party? A whole day of playing outside? A new bike? Whatever will be worth the work for your kids, use it to ensure their help instead of hinderance 😉
3) Trash Bag Goal
Set a trash bag goal before you start. How much clutter do you need rid of? Are you swimming in junk and can’t keep your house in order? Or are we just needing to purge a few items and deep clean the rest?
If you have TONS of stuff that is making you crazy, go for the gold! Set a reasonable but large trash bag goal for donations, and include that in part of your families incentive for helping.
4) Set a Timeframe
There are some seasons in which I work better if I know I will see big results quickly. Other times, I might need more time and space to accomplish goals a little bit at a time. Decide which season you are in, and set your spring cleaning timeframe. Is it time for the one day purge-it-all-so-mama-doesn’t-lose-all-sanity spring cleaning? Or the one room each day for a week clean?
You decide and set the pace. Then reward everyone, including yourself, for following through. 🙂
