“But Mooommmm! I don’t wanna do school!” Ever been there? Where your tiny tyrants beloved children form a mobilized resistance coup against you and your lesson plans?
When your kiddoes are dreading school work, all the homeschooling magic you had envisioned flies right out the door. You start to wonder who’s idea this homeschooling gig was anyway! (AmIright??)
Homeschool Dread Solution
One misty morning amongst the children I could sense the homeschool dread beginning to rise. As the whining was about to burst forth a stroke of genius hit me! (Which can only be a God-breathed idea, I mean who are we kidding here 😉 )
I asked one simple question, and it changed everything: “What would you like to do more of in our homeschool?”
Their answers totally surprised me! Some wanted more of a specific subject. Some wanted more snacks. But this opened the floodgates of discussion about how to make learning more fun, and they had some grandiose ideas.
“What if we did our math in the bathtub?” they giggled. Seriously, if the bathtub is all it takes to get through long division, SO BE IT! We shall henceforth and forevermore commence all mathematics workings in the tub of bathing! -Shameless royal homeschool decree haha!

It turns out they had a lot of fun ideas about where we could do schoolwork. Any subject can be more fun if you do it in a goofy place! And it can be done with students of ANY age.
So we dreamed up a bunch of weird and fun places to do schoolwork around the house and yard. My eldest son wanted to put all of our fun ideas in a jar or a bag and pull them out each day. The challenge was ON to see if we could complete them all!
Places to Do School
In addition to the bathtub, the kids thought it would be neat to do school under the table instead of at it. So, we added it to the fun places to do school challenge!
The possibilities are truly endless! You can find fun places to do school in the closet, on your bed, on the trampoline, in a tree, under the stars, in a blanket fort, in a box, with a fox, eating some green eggs and ham! 😉
Because we homeschool, we can do school outside or on the couch. We have done our schoolwork while watching the rain from the dryness of our cozy wrap-around porch. We have recited math facts while jumping on our trampoline (or even on the bed before we had a trampoline).
I loved the day we read to our chickens and when we listened to read-alouds while cuddling our giant newfoundland dogs. I enjoyed snuggling with cocoa in the Christmas lights and doing our character studies, and listening to the bullfrogs sing while studying astronomy.
Homeschooling provides such wonderful ways to make learning apart of living life! So it’s silly to let yourself or you avid learners get bogged down with school-day dread.
If you are needing to add some pizzazz to your homeschool routine, or your kiddoes need things to be shaken up so that school is enjoyable – I got you mama!

Spice things up in your homeschool with this gem. Simply print out the packet, cut apart the strips with each idea, and decide which ones are appropriate and safe for your homeschoolers.
You can laminate them for longevity – to pull them out when your homeschool needs some excitement in the future too! Or you can simply fold them up and discard them once you complete the challenge.
Then put them into a jar or a sac and pull one out and complete a subject of school there. No redraws aloud! Unless you get one that the weather won’t allow for of course.
What are you waiting for? Grab the printable and go forth in your homeschool merriment 😉 I hope these fun places to do school ideas bring lots of laughter to your family!
