Sugar Cone Cornucopias
I love centerpieces that completely kid friendly! Once, my children knocked over my mother’s prized possession – a ceramic pineapple centerpiece that cannot be replaced 🙁 Sad day!
Needless to say, we NEED kid friendly and safe decor in our home! It is simply a must for our large family with littles. Even if you don’t need kid-friendly decor, these cornucopias are fun to put together and they look pretty on a table!
This adorable, super easy to make centerpiece can be put together by your children. It is safe to eat and can be knocked over without worry of destruction. (Read – have at it kids!)
Stuff You’ll Need
Gluten Free Sugar cones (ice cream cones)
Thanksgiving Snack mix (any mixture of nuts, seeds, or candy corn you enjoy)
Paper towel
Water
Directions
- Fold a paper towel into a strip about two inches wide. Dampen the paper toweling and squeeze out the extra water. Wrap the paper towel around the bottom tip of a sugar cone so that it is completely covered. (I like to let my oldest children handle this part! 😉 )
- Place wrapped sugar cone on a microwave safe plate. Put in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Remove the sugar cone and carefully check for flexibility. If the cone’s tip is not soft enough to bend, rewet the paper towel and wrap the sugar cone again. Return to the microwave for another 10 – 20 seconds until bindy. (Watch carefully as the sugar cone can burn!)
- When the sugar cone’s tip is soft enough to bend, gently press the tip against the paper plate. To get more of a curl on the tip, wrap the cooled cone around your finger.
Once the gluten free sugar cone cornucopias are cooled completely before filling with your favorite snack mix, flowers, candies, or other kid-friendly festive stuffings!
