I want FUN this year. Maybe I have lost all of my marbles. Maybe homeschooling has created a monster in this mama. BUT, I want my kids to LOVE what we are learning together in our homeschool. Seeing the joy on their faces and the delight of learning in their eyes is driving my curriculum choices this year.
Our curriculum choices this year are reflective of wanting more of Jesus in our homeschool. We want His peace, His joy, and His presence. We want everything we do to help us in our quest to know God and to make Him known.
Without further ado, here are our super FUN curriculum choices that are helping us grow closer the Lord in our homeschool!
Bible
For our Bible lessons this year we will be going through Heroes of the Bible. Each morning we will be dumping out the legos and building our way through the Bible with this fun Lego building challenge! Even the toddler participates in this. I read the Bible passage aloud while the kids build something from the story with their legos. Then we will go through the character lesson together.
We will practice memorizing the verses together during our morning basket time. My older students will then complete the copy work and drawing worksheets during their table work time.
Hymns
We LOVE to start our day by making a joyful noise to the Lord. Something about starting the day with worship helps keep our hearts and minds focused and centered appropriately. I am so excited to dig into the composer study and to learn to sing four-part harmony with the Great Composers of the Faith.
The copywork and devotionals that come with this study are icing on the cake! We are going to enjoy singing our way to hiding deep Biblical truths in our hearts. The best part of this study is that we will be covering music lessons, devotions, and some handwriting all in one glorious pop! 😉
Science
This year we are covering Biology with our elementary aged kiddoes. (Yes you read that right 😉 ). My husband and I have been working hard putting together this amazing online course called Biology for Beginners! Our kiddoes have completed the first unit and are LOVING it!!
You can try the first unit (all videos and printable worksheets included!) to see if this is something your family can use!
Begining in September, you can go through one of the 14 units each week alongside your kiddoes. The course is packed with fun printable worksheets, memory work, activities, and simple experiments. Your kids will gain a love of science all while learning some science basics that will serve them well in the future!
Foreign Language
We are learning Hebrew as a family this year by using Hebrew for Homeschoolers. We will be going through Level 1 and Level 2 and possibly adding on the Songs and Prayers course. My kiddoes beg me to let them do Hebrew each day. The love going through the video lessons, which are recorded live. Whether you go through the live class, the class replays, or both you will love the aspect of feeling like you are across the table with a friend learning more about a language Jesus knew.
This course really helps you understand the language and culture of Jesus! We are growing closer to our savior as we dive deeper into studying Hebrew. We can’t wait to be able to read and understand the language that more than 73% of the Bible was written in!
Math
We are avid Math U See users and lovers. The video lessons help even my mathematical mind see things in new and easier ways! It is a great math option for kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learners.
History
We are so excited to dive into Homeschool in the Woods this year! Homeschool in the Woods provides hands-on history in a way that promotes memory making. We are going to focus on ancient history this year, so Project Passport is PERFECT for us! These take you on a trip to the past to discover cultures and people in a personal and fun way. We are loving the brand new Ancient Rome study!
The Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece studies are going to be super fun for us as well! My kids always remember things better when they have touched, tasted, and participated in history. Project Passport will make even the biggest history critic an enthusiast. They include lapbooking, hands-on on projects you can choose from, recipes and more! Be sure to watch the videos on their website to see if this fun family history curriculum is right for your homeschool!
Other Curriculum We Use
We use and LOVE both Classical Conversations and Sonlight. We are able to create and expound on memory pegs while tasting, visiting, and walking through historical happenings! These also cover geography and missionary studies as well as so much more.
What are your favorite FUN homeschool curriculum choices? 🙂
