Teaching the character trait of initiative to children is no easy feat. It takes guts and a lot of practice to step outside of your comfort zone and lend a helping hand whenever it’s needed.
Not only does a child (or an adult for that matter!) have to slow down enough to see a need, but they have to learn to do something to meet that need once it is recognized. Lending a helping hand and showing initiative goes hand in hand! (Pun totally intended 😉 )
This month we have been doing a challenge to train the character trait of initiative in our kiddoes! If you have joined us or would like to, this is a fun treat for your family that goes right along with that.
Ideas on When to Use this Reward
- At the end of the character challenge
- Once your children have shown initiative a set amount of times
- When you catch a family member in the act of lending a helping hand
- As a treat for your children to give out when they see someone showing initiative
- As a Helping Hand Initiative Character Challenge Party Favor!
Fall Glove Popcorn Treat Recipe Â
Any snack can be served in these helping hand gloves but this mix appeals to the taste buds with a fun blend of salty and sweet. (If you are in need of a quick version, mix popcorn with candy corn mix and hand out your helping hands!)
This recipe is also gluten free!Â
Ingredients
6 to 8 cups popped popcorn, salted
1 cup milk chocolate morsels, melted
1 cup orange candy melts, melted
1 (4 oz) box Reese’s Pieces candy
2 cups candy corn mix
Non-powdered disposable gloves
Pretty Fall Ribbon
Instructions
- Line two large baking sheets with waxed paper. Spread popcorn over waxed paper.
- Drizzle melted chocolate and orange candy coating over the popcorn. Add the candy.
- Allow melted chocolate and orange candy coating to set completely before breaking into pieces. To speed the process, place the popcorn in a refrigerator or freezer just until set.
- Break popcorn apart. Scoop mix into a glove, working the snack mix into the fingers and palm area. NOTE: Make sure to use non-powdered gloves to avoid a yucky residue on your snack mix!
- Tie the glove at the wrist with a festive ribbon.
Viola! You have a helping hand to help celebrate the initiative it takes to lend a helping hand!
