Tricks that Save me Time as a Homeschool Mom
Being a homeschool mom requires much diligence. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to accomplish everything a homeschool mom wants to do. (ask me how I know 😉 )
With a little bit of experience and a few creative tricks, any homeschool mom can become a master her time. Here are my best tricks for adding a few extra minutes to your days!
Lay out the Books for Tomorrow
Using living books in your homeschool seems like a great idea until you lose them all and rack up astronomical library fees. Also getting a box of books for the year works wonderfully at the beginning of the year, but where do the books go that you don’t need until the next semester!? Seriously…where are you books? We have shelves for you!

Finding the books we will need for the next day is a HUGE timesaver! Needing a book you can’t find means there is a lesson you can’t do. If you are like me and can’t move on until the lesson is complete, you might waste an entire homeschool morning hunting a lost book. Laying them out the night before or keeping all the books you will need in a week in an easily accessible basket is a total time life saver.
Use those Razors with the Soap Built-in
Yep. We are going there. Lathering takes time. Time is not something I like to waste. Therefore, my options were: donning hairy legs or spending precious time layering the soap so nothing gets cut or razor burnt in the process.
Behold! Razors with soap save at least 5 minutes a day. Simply shave without worry or need to lather. I am serious, you need to try one. You can thank me later 😉
Brush your Teeth in the Shower
Have you ever tried this? Seriously picked up this trick as a desperate attempt to actually have some sort of hygiene routine when I had two kids two and under. When you have five minutes to wash for the day you can scrub and brush at the same time. The Lord gave us two hands for a reason. Try it and add another 5 minutes to your day!
Meal Plan
Have you tried meal planning? This saves serious time chunks because I know what we have to eat and when we can eat it! I used to waste lots of time alternating between fridge, freezer, and pantry just staring and thinking about what we have to make to eat.

If you take your current mood and all the preferences of your children into account, it can make mealtimes a nightmare! As homeschoolers, we don’t have time for that kind of decision making! Meal plans add all that time to your day. If you don’t have a meal plan try it. A few extra minutes spent planning adds lots of extra time to every day during the week!
